FireDAC ODBC performance

We have an application that uses ODBC to access an database on an nonstop server.  Today we are having some performance issues, and we would like to speed up the connection. The current implementation is based on Delphi 10.1 Berlin Professional.  We are using the TADOConnection,TADOQuery,TADOCommand classes.

We are considering to replace the current implementation with Firedac components.  We will then use the corresponding FireDac components that are called TFDConnection,TFDQuery,TFDCommand.  This is an application for MS windows only ,so the multi-device is not important to us however.  We are interested in whether we can expect better perfomance if we move to FIREDAC.   Is firedac ODBC a new implementation or is this an wrapper for the old TADO implementation? Does the multi-device functionality add overhead at run-time?
